CRM write-back safeguards

The control set that prevents enrichment from damaging your system of record.

Every Clay-to-CRM write is a risk decision. These safeguards are the minimum:

The seven safeguards

  1. Validate before write. Format, completeness, plausibility checks as Clay columns; only validated rows reach the CRM.
  2. Upsert, never blind-create. Match on a stable external ID; creates without keys manufacture duplicates.
  3. Provenance fields. Every written field carries source, timestamp, and workflow name.
  4. Least-privilege credentials. A scoped integration user, not an admin.
  5. Pilot scope. First writes go to a sandbox or a bounded segment with review before full volume.
  6. Failure alerts. Rejected writes land in an exceptions table someone actually reviews.
  7. Rollback plan. Know exactly which fields to null/revert if an enrichment proves wrong — before you need it.
