Outbound workflow orchestration in Clay

From qualified list to sequencer/CRM activation with the checks that protect deliverability.

Clay's role in outbound is upstream of sending: build the qualified, enriched, verified list — then activate it in a sequencer or CRM.

The activation chain

  1. Qualify. Filters + scores define who enters outbound at all. Suppression lists (customers, competitors, opt-outs, domains) apply here — before enrichment, so you never pay to enrich people you will never contact.
  2. Enrich. Waterfalls for email/direct dial; personalize with AI only where it changes reply odds.
  3. Verify. Email validation before anything ships. Bounce rates above ~5% damage domain reputation faster than any copy change repairs it.
  4. Activate. Native Clay sequencer (1 Action per lead added to campaign) or export to an external sequencer (1 Action per record exported). CRM-first teams: write to CRM and let sequences trigger there.
  5. Loop back. Bounces and replies feed back into provider choice and list filters.
Action accounting: for the sequencer it is per lead added, not per email sent; for external sequencers, per record exported. Plan capacity on records, not emails.
